The 1^st netball team won their semi-finals v. Windlesham in the Sussex Knock-Out Cup and went on to play Brighton College in the finals at Burgess Hill School winning by an impressive margin 26 - 14.

Day 1

A very excitable bunch of year five pupils greeted me this morning, and that excitement has not as yet dissipated! Following check-in, lunch, setting off a few scanners on the way to departures, copious Cafe Au Lait for Miss Rose and numerous cries of 'but I don't need the loo', we were in the air. Year 5 represented the school well, showing wonderful manners from the moment they arrived at Gatwick. A tour of La Chaumiere upon arrival was followed by the obligatory negotiation of bunks, unpacking and some playtime in the VERY warm late afternoon sunshine.

Dinner was 'tres bien', and the pupils ate their fill! Showers and relaxation time followed, with some cards games, reading and a duet from Lottie and Poppy on the piano. A lovely first day!

Day 2
Our first full day in La Chaumiere de Sauveterre was a very busy one. Pupils were awake early and ready for fun. We started with a hearty breakfast, in which we were all introduced to 'confiture du lait' - a big hit with everyone!
Lottie, Poppy, Olivia and Libby accompanied Monsieur Blackmoor to buy fresh baguettes for everyone to enjoy, and made some new French friends along the way. Everybody visited the local Intermarche, and had great fun spending some euros on a variety of weird and wonderful presents!

After lunch, Year 5 had a lesson in making jewellery - en Francais! - and later we were able to visit La Cathedral de Lombez, a famous landmark on the horizon of Sauveterre. To finish off the day, pupils had an opportunity to brave the swimming pool, with Harrison, Edward and Alex the only men to take that challenge. Bravo to them! A delightful dinner and reading topped off the day, and an early night leaves us ready for more adventures tomorrow.

Quarter Finals beckon!

The 1st XI Football team make it through to the quarter finals having beaten Royal Russell School 3 - 2.

Cumnor House traveled up from Sussex to Croydon to face Royal Russell school on a damp a cold day. It turned out to be a cup epic. An early goal for Cumnor from Ben Lovill settled the Cumnor nerves. The match remained tight up until short of half time with Cumnor trying to play football but being out-muscled by the physical Royal Russell side. 30 seconds before half time Olly Bradley was clean through for Cumnor and hit the bar and with the resulting counter attack ending in a corner at the other end, a fine header saw the sides level at half-time. Royal Russell gained the lead a few minutes after the break with a scrappy goal. However it was the Cumnor captain, Oscar McConnell who changed the game with firstly a fine equalizer. Cumnor continued to squirm chances including hitting the post before McConnell netted the winner with 5 minutes to go after great work from Bradley. McConnell was the stand out player on the pitch though Alex Chetwood, the small Cumnor keeper had a remarkable game in full sized goals.

Following a long drive through torrential rain, Mr and Mrs Mockridge, Mr Thavenot and Miss Rail welcomed the children and staff to Chateau Sauveterre at 1830 last night. Everyone had enjoyed a relatively painless journey.

The children quickly settled into their dorms and an intrepid few braved the pool for a chilly swim in the overcast and brisk conditions, prior to a simple supper and some relaxing time in the dorms.

Due to the change of clocks most of the children were not happy to be woken at 0730 (French time). There were certainly a few bleary eyes and plenty of bed hair! Following breakfast they were swiftly into rehearsals!

Needless to say all the children and staff are loving life in the south of France!

Congratulations to the U13 Netball squad who managed to improve on their excellent result last year and come 3rd in the IAPS National Netball Tournament. Congratulations should also be extended to the U11 squad who competed very well but sadly didn't manage to get placed despite winning some good games.

Despite playing some very exciting sevens, the 1st VII lost to a stronger and more skillful Brighton College VII. Both teams played an exciting brand of running rugby with intelligence and patience. It was a final match up between David and Goliath but sadly Goliath won on this occasion.

The Year 4 Drama and Music evening was a huge success.
