Cumnor, whilst predominantly a day school to Year 7, remains strongly committed to boarding for children in their last two years here. A high proportion of leavers go on to boarding schools and boarding at Cumnor provides the ideal preparation in a sheltered and familial atmosphere. It is an opening onto a host of new responsibilities and the beginning of a greater sense of independence and self reliance.
None of this is to suggest that boarding is or should be a substitute for family life; Cumnor’s fortnightly boarding system offers the best of both worlds to children and parents alike and the ‘occasional’ boarding of two or three consecutive nights as a starting point is, indeed, the ideal beginning for many.
Cumnor’s commitment to boarding is evident in the recent complete refurbishment of both the girls’ and boys’ boarding wings and the comfortable, warm and homely facilities avoid any sense of the institutional!
