Overseas and UK Tours
Every year, the school tours abroad with the nucleus of the following year’s 1st XI cricket, 1st VII Netball & IX Hockey teams, along with as many from Y8 that wish to go for non-sporting activities. Tours are an invaluable means of expanding the children’s experiences of travel, games playing and living in a group away from home.
Any member of staff is encouraged to put forward plans of tours in the UK or abroad for any teams in any term or holiday.
Recent examples are:
November w/e: 1st XV Rugby and 1st XI Hockey to Berkshire and Wiltshire schools
June 2 days: 1st XI and Colts XI Cricket to Oxfordshire schools
Orchestra trip
Every year, the school runs an orchestra trip abroad for one week in mid-July. We stay at the Chateau de Sauveterre in south-west France. Children are invited at the discretion of the Director of Music. We fly on a Sunday to Toulouse, rehearse for the week, interspersed with many activities (caving; swimming in a river; visiting local markets) and perform a 90-minute concert to visiting parents and the local community on the Saturday, before returning on the Sunday. Expeditions Day
Every year at the beginning of the Autumn term every child goes on a day trip with their year group and the form teachers. The aim is for the children to build new bonds and refresh old ones after the long summer holidays. It is also a great opportunity for them to get to know their new form teacher. Previous expeditions have included Hampton Court, RNLI Hastings and Camber Sands, Blacklands Farm for adventure activities, Brighton Pavilion and Fishers Farm.
Bushcraft
Year 7 - Bushcraft
At the end of year 7 all the children go camping for a few days. They have the opportunity to plan, cook and eat their own food; learn to put up and then sleep in their own tent; work in groups on various leadership tasks come rain or shine and finally develop various bushcraft skills to be able to survive and appreciate outdoor life.
School Trips
In addition staff regularly organise day trips for the children to various locations to support the curriculum. Past examples have included Ashdown Forest, The Science museum, The British Museum, Kew Gardens, The Olympic Park, Anne of Cleeves House in Lewes, The Natural History Museum, Hurstmonceux Science Observatory, Battle Abbey and other roadshows.
Year 8 Geography and Science Field Trip
At the beginning of Year 8 all the children travel to Dorset for a long weekend. They study the rock formations of the Jurassic Coast, the land usage and tourism and various ecosystems. The data that is collected is then used to form the basis of their Geography Project needed for Common Entrance.
