ICT

Children experience the use of ICT at Cumnor from Pre-Prep through to the end of Year 8. We have a dedicated ICT room with a range of equipment, a suite of Apple MacIntosh computers in the Music room and a set of netbooks that are available for use in and around the school. The introduction to ICT skills runs simultaneously with the use of ICT to teach and support all of the other subjects. Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard and our new theatre is fully equipped enabling pupils to expand their skills in a variety of ways.

Philosophy and Aims of ICT at Cumnor House School

ICT is an increasingly important aspect of everyday modern living. At Cumnor House we aim to ensure that our pupils receive an education which takes account of the relevance of ICT in our society. Through a progressive programme of teaching, our children will be able to use various kinds of technology confidently and effectively, and will learn to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to a variety of curricular contexts. Underpinning this is giving our staff the access to the relevant ICT equipment and providing them with the necessary training to give them the confidence to use ICT to enhance their teaching across the curriculum.

  • In ICT we aim:

·         To enable the children to appreciate the scope, use and importance of ICT.

·         To foster positive attitudes towards ICT

·         To provide opportunities to use ICT in the delivery of various aspects of the curriculum.

·         To develop a sound knowledge and understanding of the skills required within ICT

·         To ensure progression and continuity in the acquisition of ICT knowledge and skills.

·         To provide ongoing training to enable staff to deliver this policy.

  • ICT Objectives

·         Pupils will be given opportunities to use various types of ICT within school.
Account will be taken of pupils’ existing knowledge, understanding and skills to ensure appropriate differentiation in learning and teaching.

·         Pupils will have access to appropriate software and hardware to enhance their learning.

·         Pupils will be given a clear understanding of how to use equipment safely, correctly and responsibly.

·        Opportunities will be taken to relate school curriculum work in ICT to the wider world e.g. industry, travel and commerce.

·         Pupils will learn to access and use the Internet and email effectively and confidently.
